Gwagwalada, Abuja – The Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kasim Mohamed, has formally inaugurated the newly appointed Council Secretary, Supervisory Councillors and Senior Special Assistants, charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through selfless service, discipline and commitment to the development of the area council.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Council Secretariat in Gwagwalada, followed the confirmation of the nominees by the Legislative Arm of the Council. It was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, former council officials, party stakeholders, members of the media and residents of the area council.
The newly inaugurated officials include Chief Agu Okechukwu Samuel as Council Secretary.
Those sworn in as Supervisory Councillors are Abubakar Ibrahim (Special Duties); Hon. Umar Faruk Abubakar (Health and Primary Health Care); Garba Jibrin (Agriculture and Natural Resources); Arc. Suleiman Mohammed (Works, Land and Survey); Adamu Dahiru Danbaba (Environmental and Sanitation); Mahmud Musa Wambai (Finance and Economic Planning); and Hon. Caleb D. Yakubu (Education and Social Development).
Also inaugurated as Senior Special Assistants are Umar Zagoi (Community Needs Assessment and Engagement); Hon. Umar Danbai (Adult and Non-Formal Education); Yusuf Isah (Revenue Generation and Mobilisation); Umar Inuwa Guzau (Youths Development); Mohammed Isah Hassan (Media and Publicity); Maimunat Mohammed Jimoh (Women Affairs); and Garba Salihu (Political and Public Mobilisation).
Administering the oath of office, Hon. Kasim Mohamed urged the appointees to see their appointments as an opportunity to serve the people rather than a privilege. He stressed that the appointments were based on merit and competence, warning that his administration would not tolerate indiscipline or poor performance.
The chairman said no individual could successfully govern alone, urging members of his cabinet to work collectively in delivering quality governance to the people of Gwagwalada. He also appealed to those yet to receive appointments to remain patient and continue supporting the administration, assuring them that everyone has a role to play in the council’s development.
“We cannot all be appointed at the same time. Your appointment is not because you are better than others but because you have been entrusted with greater responsibility. I expect loyalty, commitment and results. Anyone who fails to deliver can be replaced because the interest of the people comes first,” he said.
Former Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Isa Dobi, congratulated the Executive Chairman for what he described as the visible transformation already taking place within the council secretariat and other public facilities barely two months into the administration.
He noted that structures neglected for over two decades had begun receiving attention, describing Hon. Kasim Mohamed as a capable leader with the vision to reposition Gwagwalada for sustainable growth. He urged the newly inaugurated officials to serve as the chairman’s eyes and ears by faithfully conveying the needs and aspirations of the people.
Also speaking, former Chairman of the Council, Hon. Adamu Mustapha, advised the appointees to remain focused on good governance, stressing that leadership is about serving the people rather than exercising power. He reminded them that no leader succeeds in isolation and urged them to work in harmony with political leaders, traditional rulers and the people.
Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated appointees, the Council Secretary, Chief Agu Okechukwu Samuel, thanked the Executive Chairman for the confidence reposed in them and pledged the unwavering support of the cabinet to the administration.
He assured residents that the appointees would complement the chairman’s developmental agenda through dedication, teamwork and effective service delivery, while calling on the people of Gwagwalada to continue supporting the administration in its efforts to rebuild the council.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards of commendation by the Market Women in Politics to former Chairman Hon. Adamu Mustapha and the Executive Chairman, Hon. Kasim Mohamed, in recognition of their contributions to the development of Gwagwalada Area Council.
The ceremony ended with goodwill messages from political stakeholders, traditional rulers and community leaders, who expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated cabinet would strengthen the administration’s drive to deliver more democratic dividends to the people of Gwagwalada Area Council.
