Adamu Samaila has called on Nigerians to take security matters seriously and remain vigilant by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities to the appropriate security authorities.
Samaila made the call shortly after receiving an award and being inducted by the African Institute of Management and Administrative Science (AIMAS) during the Africa 2026 Security Strategic Management Conference, held under the theme, “Countering Terrorism, Insurgency and Banditry in Africa for Optimum Productivity.”
He stressed that security should not be regarded as the sole responsibility of security agencies, noting that members of the public have important roles to play in preventing crime and other threats to lives and property.
According to him, individuals and communities must remain observant of their surroundings and promptly alert relevant authorities whenever they notice unusual or suspicious movements.
Samaila urged Nigerians to develop a culture of security consciousness, saying timely information from members of the public could assist security agencies in preventing criminal activities and protecting communities.
He said: “Everyone should take security seriously and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate authorities.”
The call came at a time when Nigeria and other African countries continue to confront various security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of organised crime.
He noted that building a safer society requires collective responsibility and cooperation among government institutions, security agencies, communities, professionals and individual citizens.
Samaila also expressed appreciation to the organisers of the conference for recognising his contributions and conferring the award and induction on him.
He described the honour as a source of encouragement and a responsibility to do more in service to humanity and the country.
He promised to continue contributing his quota to the development of society, stressing his determination to use his experience and position to make meaningful contributions to the progress of Nigeria.
He said the recognition would further motivate him to remain committed to activities that promote peace, security, development and the wellbeing of humanity.
The Africa 2026 Security Strategic Management Conference brought together dignitaries and professionals from different parts of the country and beyond.
The gathering attracted participants from diverse fields, including security and strategic management, politics, academia, administration and other professional sectors.
The conference provided a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on contemporary security challenges confronting Africa and explore practical approaches to countering terrorism, insurgency and banditry.
Participants examined the importance of strategic security management, intelligence gathering, public awareness and collaboration among relevant stakeholders in addressing security threats and creating an environment conducive to sustainable economic and social development.
The conference also underscored the relationship between peace and productivity, with stakeholders emphasising the need for stronger institutional cooperation and greater public participation in security management.
The presence of politicians, academics, professionals and other dignitaries further highlighted the broad importance of the conference and the need for a multi-sectoral approach to addressing Africa’s security challenges.
For Samaila, the award and induction represent not only recognition of his contributions but also a renewed commitment to serving humanity and contributing to the security and development of his fatherland.
He therefore urged citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could help prevent threats before they escalate.
