Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a N15.9 billion flyover and several other infrastructure projects, including schools, in Maiduguri, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve urban mobility, expand access to education and accelerate the reconstruction and development of the state.

The projects, unveiled in Maiduguri, are expected to address some of the infrastructure challenges confronting residents of the state capital, particularly traffic congestion, while providing improved facilities for pupils and other residents.

The flyover represents a major investment in the state’s urban transportation infrastructure, coming at a time when the population and commercial activities in Maiduguri continue to place increasing pressure on existing roads and junctions.

Commissioning the projects, Governor Zulum said his administration remained committed to executing infrastructure that would have direct and lasting impact on the lives of residents.

He stressed the importance of developing modern infrastructure as a critical component of the state’s recovery and reconstruction efforts, particularly after years of insecurity that affected economic activities and public facilities across Borno.

The governor said the flyover was conceived to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at a major junction in the state capital, adding that the project would enhance movement for motorists, commuters and businesses.

According to him, the government would continue to prioritise projects capable of supporting economic activities and improving the quality of life of citizens.

The commissioning of the flyover was accompanied by the unveiling of other projects, including school infrastructure, reflecting the administration’s focus on both physical development and human capital investment.

The new schools are expected to provide pupils with improved learning environments and contribute to the expansion of educational opportunities in the state.

Zulum has repeatedly placed education among the priorities of his administration, with investments in school construction, renovation and the provision of facilities aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions.

The latest projects therefore form part of the broader development agenda of the state government, which combines reconstruction of public infrastructure with investment in education and other essential sectors.

The governor noted that the completion of major infrastructure projects was a demonstration of the government’s determination to translate public resources into tangible development across the state.

He also emphasised the need for residents to protect public infrastructure, describing such projects as collective assets that should be preserved for present and future generations.

The N15.9 billion flyover is particularly significant to Maiduguri, where traffic volume has increased over the years due to population growth, expanding commercial activities and the gradual return of economic activities following improvements in security.

Improved road infrastructure is expected to facilitate easier movement within the metropolis, reduce travel delays and enhance access to markets, schools, hospitals and other essential services.

Beyond the immediate transportation benefits, the project is also expected to contribute to the wider economic development of Maiduguri by improving connectivity and creating a more efficient environment for businesses and residents.

The commissioning further underscores the Borno State Government’s continuing focus on rebuilding public infrastructure as part of efforts to restore normalcy and stimulate development across the state.

For residents, the projects are expected to provide practical benefits, particularly in the areas of transportation and education, while reinforcing the government’s commitment to visible infrastructure development.

Governor Zulum has maintained that development in Borno must extend beyond the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure to include sustainable investments in education, roads, healthcare, housing and other sectors that directly affect citizens.

The latest commissioning ceremony therefore marked another phase in the state’s ongoing development drive, with the governor calling for continued support and responsible use of the facilities.

He assured residents that his administration would sustain the implementation of projects designed to meet the needs of the people and promote balanced development across Borno State.

The commissioning of the flyover and the schools comes as part of the broader transformation taking place in Maiduguri, with the state government seeking to modernise the capital and strengthen infrastructure needed to support its growing population and economy.

The N15.9 billion flyover is consequently expected to become an important component of Maiduguri’s road network, while the newly commissioned schools will provide additional infrastructure for the state’s education sector.
