Stakeholders, political leaders, professionals, community leaders and supporters of good governance have converged in Lafia, Nasarawa State, for the Lafia Friends of Wadada Leadership Summit, with participants calling for purposeful leadership, stronger collaboration and collective action towards the development of the state.

The summit, themed “Promoting Purposeful Leadership, Strengthening Collaboration, and Fostering Meaningful Discussions,” provided a platform for participants to deliberate on leadership, governance, unity and the collective responsibility of citizens and stakeholders in building a stronger and more prosperous Nasarawa State.

The gathering brought together individuals from different sectors and backgrounds who shared perspectives on the need for responsible leadership and sustained collaboration in addressing the challenges confronting the state and unlocking its development potential.

A major highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Justice Abdullahi Liman, JAC (Rtd.), whose presentation focused attention on the importance of purposeful and accountable leadership in achieving sustainable development.

Participants said the keynote address provided valuable insights into the responsibilities of leaders and citizens, particularly the need for leaders to place the interests of the people at the centre of governance and decision-making.

The occasion was chaired by Hon. Hassan Liman, SAN, whose role further underscored the importance attached to the summit as a platform for intellectual engagement, dialogue and the exchange of ideas on the future of Nasarawa State.

Speaking on the significance of the gathering, participants expressed the view that the development of Nasarawa cannot be achieved through the efforts of government alone, stressing the need for cooperation among political leaders, professionals, traditional institutions, civil society, the private sector, youth and other stakeholders.

The summit also provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the importance of unity and constructive dialogue in strengthening the social and political fabric of the state.

According to participants, meaningful development requires an environment where individuals and groups can come together, discuss challenges openly and develop practical approaches to addressing them.

The discussions further reinforced the belief that leadership should go beyond occupying positions of authority and should instead be measured by the ability to inspire people, create opportunities, promote inclusiveness and deliver tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.

  1. The gathering also highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in advancing the economic and social development of Nasarawa State.

With Nasarawa endowed with significant human and natural resources, speakers and participants stressed that purposeful leadership and collective action would be critical to harnessing these resources for the benefit of the people.

The summit’s message of collaboration also resonated with the growing call for citizens to actively participate in the development process rather than leaving the responsibility entirely in the hands of government officials.

Participants noted that a prosperous state requires the combined efforts of government, business leaders, professionals, community organisations, young people and citizens across all sectors.

The event was equally described as a demonstration of a growing commitment to building bridges across different interests and creating a common platform for discussions about the future of Nasarawa State.

The participants maintained that constructive engagement and meaningful conversations remain essential to finding sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the state.

The summit also emphasised the need to promote a culture of leadership that is driven by vision, integrity, accountability and service to humanity.

For many of those who attended, the event was more than a gathering; it represented an opportunity to renew their commitment to the collective development of Nasarawa State and to encourage greater cooperation among its people.

The organisers and participants expressed optimism that continued engagements of this nature would contribute to the emergence of stronger partnerships and more effective approaches to addressing the needs of citizens.

The gathering ended with a renewed call for stakeholders to translate discussions and ideas into concrete actions capable of improving the lives of residents and strengthening the future prospects of the state.

The message from the summit was clear: meaningful progress requires purposeful leadership, collective action and genuine collaboration.

As stakeholders continue to engage on the future of Nasarawa, participants expressed confidence that a united and purposeful approach can help create a state where citizens have greater opportunities to thrive.

The summit therefore marked another step in the continuing conversation on leadership and development in Nasarawa State, with participants reaffirming their commitment to building a stronger, more united and prosperous society.
