By Julius Peter, Abuja

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) Commissioner representing Nasarawa State, Hon. Hajiya Halima Ahmadu Jabiru, has commended former Chief of Army Staff and former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd.), for what she described as his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s security during his years of service.

Jabiru said Buratai’s tenure in the Nigerian military was worthy of commendation, noting that his leadership and service to the country had continued to attract recognition from Nigerians and stakeholders across different sectors.

She spoke in Abuja during the public presentation of the book, Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, which chronicles aspects of Buratai’s military leadership, service and contributions to national security.

The FCC commissioner said she was excited to be part of the occasion, adding that the book would provide an opportunity for Nigerians, particularly younger generations, to learn from the former military commander’s experiences and leadership philosophy.

According to her, Buratai “did wonderfully well” during his tenure and Nigerians should be proud of his contributions to the country.

She said, “I am very excited to be here. Buratai did wonderfully well during his tenure. We are very proud of him. He really did well for the country.”

Jabiru also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its efforts towards strengthening national security, particularly through the provision of equipment and other resources required by security agencies to confront insecurity.

She noted that effective security operations require not only personnel but also adequate equipment, logistics and institutional support.

The commissioner expressed the hope that the Federal Government’s continued attention to the security sector would further enhance the capacity of the nation’s armed forces and other security agencies to protect lives and property.

She further commended the organisers of the book presentation for documenting Buratai’s leadership experience, describing the initiative as an important contribution to national discourse on military leadership and national development.

Jabiru urged Nigerians to read the book and draw useful lessons from Buratai’s life, career and approach to leadership.

She particularly praised the former military chief’s lifestyle and called on Nigerians to emulate values she associated with his public service and personal conduct.

She said the lessons contained in the book should not be restricted to military personnel, stressing that leadership principles could be applied across different sectors of national life.

The event attracted prominent Nigerians, including a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Dr. Umar Abdul Mutallab, founder of Jaiz Bank; the Emir of Kano, HRH Muhammad Sanusi II; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; politicians, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

The gathering provided a platform for political, military, traditional and civil society stakeholders to reflect on military leadership, national security and the contributions of senior military officers to Nigeria’s development.

The public presentation of Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era also served as an opportunity to highlight the importance of documenting institutional experiences and leadership legacies for the benefit of future generations.

The speakers and participants at the event emphasised the need for Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at strengthening national security, promoting effective leadership and preserving valuable lessons from the country’s military history.

For Jabiru, the recognition of Buratai’s era was not only about celebrating an individual but also about encouraging a culture of service, leadership and commitment to national development.

She urged Nigerians to study the experiences documented in the book and apply relevant lessons to their respective areas of responsibility, saying that the country would benefit when citizens embraced responsible leadership and service to humanity.
