Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, FCNA, has assumed duties as Acting Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance following the retirement of Raymond Omenka Omachi from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Omachi retired on October 26, 2026, bringing his career in the Federal Civil Service to a close, while the transition was formalised at a handover and valedictory ceremony held at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27.

The ceremony marked a significant transition in the Ministry’s administrative leadership, with Danjuma pledging to sustain the achievements of his predecessor and strengthen professionalism, accountability and effective service delivery.

In his acceptance remarks, the new Acting Permanent Secretary expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for their support and the opportunity to serve.

He also appreciated the management and staff of the Ministry for their cooperation, expressing confidence that continued teamwork would be essential to advancing the Ministry’s responsibilities.

Danjuma assured the workforce of his commitment to building on the foundation laid by Omachi, stressing that continuity, discipline and collective responsibility would remain central to the Ministry’s administrative operations.

He emphasised the need for professionalism, accountability and teamwork, urging directors and other members of staff to remain focused on the Ministry’s mandate and work towards achieving measurable results.

According to him, effective communication, adherence to due process and cooperation among departments are critical to ensuring efficiency and improving institutional performance.

He further underscored the importance of prudent resource management and improved service delivery, noting that staff must remain committed to the standards required for effective public administration.

The Acting Permanent Secretary called on directors and staff to maintain open communication, strengthen collaboration and discharge their duties with dedication in the interest of the Ministry and the country.

He also paid tribute to his predecessor, acknowledging Omachi’s years of service and contributions to the Ministry.

Danjuma urged the workforce to sustain the spirit of cooperation and dedication that had supported the Ministry’s operations, while working collectively to advance its objectives under the Federal Government’s economic management framework.

In his valedictory remarks, the retiring Permanent Secretary described the occasion as an emotional moment, likening the gathering to a family reunion.

Omachi reflected on the relationships, experiences and professional engagements that shaped his career in the Federal Civil Service, expressing gratitude to those who supported him throughout his years of service.

He acknowledged the importance of the cooperation he received from colleagues, management and staff, noting that their contributions had been instrumental in his professional journey.

The retired Permanent Secretary also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for their support during his career.

He extended his gratitude to colleagues and members of staff of the Ministry for their understanding, collaboration and commitment to their shared responsibilities.

Omachi urged the workforce to remain dedicated to their duties and continue upholding the values and principles of the Civil Service.

He stressed the importance of unity, discipline and commitment to the national interest, encouraging staff to work together to ensure that the Ministry continues to discharge its responsibilities effectively.

His remarks highlighted the significance of professional relationships and institutional cooperation in sustaining public service delivery, particularly within a ministry responsible for key aspects of the Federal Government’s fiscal and economic administration.

Speaking on behalf of the management and staff of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Director of Human Resource Management, Aderonke Jaiyesimi, paid tribute to Omachi in recognition of his years of service and contributions to the Ministry.

Jaiyesimi conveyed the workforce’s appreciation for his service, acknowledging his contributions to the institution during his time in office.

She also wished him good health, peace and fulfilment as he begins a new chapter of his life outside the Federal Civil Service.

The tribute reflected the Ministry’s appreciation of Omachi’s years of public service and the professional relationships he built with colleagues during his career.

The ceremony featured tributes from colleagues who acknowledged his contributions and wished him well as he embarked on retirement.

The event concluded with the cutting of a retirement cake in Omachi’s honour, marking both his retirement from the Federal Civil Service and his 60th birthday.

Danjuma’s assumption of office comes at a time when effective coordination, accountability and prudent management of public resources remain important to the Federal Government’s economic administration.

As Acting Permanent Secretary, he is expected to provide administrative leadership within the Ministry and work with its directors and staff to ensure continuity in the discharge of its responsibilities.

His emphasis on teamwork, adherence to due process and measurable results underscores the importance of a coordinated workforce in supporting the Ministry’s operations.

The transition also provides an opportunity for the Ministry to sustain institutional knowledge and build on existing administrative processes as it continues to carry out its mandate.

For Omachi, the valedictory ceremony marked the end of a career in public service, accompanied by tributes from colleagues and expressions of appreciation for his contributions.

For Danjuma, the assumption of duties signals the beginning of a new phase of administrative responsibility, with a commitment to maintaining professionalism, strengthening accountability and promoting effective service delivery.

The Federal Ministry of Finance announced the development in a press release issued by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie, on October 28, 2026.
