By Julius Peter, Abuja

The Director-General of the ADC Project New Nigeria, Hon. Hajiya Katumi Oyiza, has called on Nigerians to use the 2027 general elections to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the country urgently needs a new political direction to address the hardship confronting citizens.

Oyiza made the call while speaking at the ADC All Support Group Forum Town Hall, where she canvassed support for the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

She said Nigerians had endured what she described as prolonged economic hardship under the APC-led administration, arguing that the 2027 election presents an opportunity for citizens to demand a change in leadership.

According to her, the ADC and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are prepared to provide what she described as an alternative political and economic programme capable of improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

Oyiza said the current economic difficulties being experienced by households and businesses across the country should motivate citizens to participate actively in the 2027 electoral process rather than remain passive.

“We need a new Nigeria. Nigerians have suffered enough in the hands of the APC and Tinubu,” she said, urging citizens to come out in large numbers during the 2027 elections and exercise their democratic rights.

She maintained that the ADC’s proposed leadership under Atiku Abubakar would prioritise policies aimed at reducing the economic burden on ordinary Nigerians and creating a more favourable environment for businesses and investment.

Oyiza specifically cited the issue of petroleum subsidy, saying an Atiku-led administration would consider the return of subsidy as part of measures to make life more affordable for Nigerians.

She also spoke in favour of opening Nigeria’s borders, among other measures, which she said would help ease economic pressure and improve access to goods and opportunities.

The ADC support group leader argued that the party’s proposed policies would focus on addressing the economic challenges facing Nigerians and rebuilding public confidence in government.

She urged Nigerians, particularly youths and other politically active citizens, to become involved in the movement ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that political change could only be achieved through collective participation.

Oyiza said the ADC was positioning itself as a platform for Nigerians seeking an alternative to the existing political establishment, adding that the party’s support groups would continue to mobilise citizens across the country.

The town hall meeting, which brought together supporters and members of the ADC support-group structure, also provided an avenue for discussions on the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections and its proposed political agenda.

Oyiza called for unity among supporters of the ADC presidential project, saying Nigerians who desire a better country must work together irrespective of their ethnic, religious or regional backgrounds.

She further appealed to Nigerians not to be discouraged by the challenges associated with the electoral process, but to participate actively and ensure that their votes count.

According to her, the objective of the ADC movement is to contribute to the emergence of a government that would prioritise the welfare of citizens, strengthen the economy and create opportunities for Nigerians.

She described Atiku Abubakar and the ADC as being ready to take up the challenge of rebuilding the country, while urging supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of 2027.

The campaign was anchored on the message: “Atiku/Amaechi 2027: Together We Can Build a Better Nigeria.”

Oyiza’s remarks come amid growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and support groups stepping up efforts to attract voters and present competing visions for the country’s future.

She therefore urged Nigerians to carefully assess the policies and records of political parties and candidates before making their choices at the polls.

She maintained that the 2027 election should be about the future of Nigeria and the wellbeing of its citizens, rather than merely about political personalities.

Oyiza concluded by calling for greater political participation and collective action, expressing confidence that Nigerians could build a better country through democratic engagement and what she described as a decisive electoral choice in 2027.
