The Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has said Nigerians have reported noticeable improvements in electricity supply across the country over the past four weeks.
Tegbe disclosed this while speaking on recent developments in the power sector, noting that feedback received from electricity consumers indicated that the availability of power had improved in several parts of the country.
The Minister said the improvement was an indication that ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and stakeholders in the electricity sector were beginning to yield positive results.
According to him, feedback from Nigerians remains an important component of the government’s assessment of developments in the power sector, particularly as the ultimate objective of reforms and investments is to provide consumers with more reliable and sustainable electricity.
Tegbe said the reported improvement in supply over the past month was encouraging, but stressed the need for the government and relevant stakeholders to sustain the momentum and address the structural challenges that have continued to affect the sector.
The power sector has faced persistent challenges over the years, including inadequate generation capacity, transmission constraints, distribution bottlenecks, gas supply limitations and other infrastructure-related issues.
The Minister’s statement comes amid renewed efforts by the Federal Government to improve electricity generation, transmission and distribution and strengthen the overall reliability of Nigeria’s power system.
Tegbe said the government would continue to engage with relevant stakeholders across the electricity value chain to identify areas requiring urgent intervention and ensure that improvements recorded in recent weeks are sustained.
He also underscored the importance of receiving direct feedback from electricity consumers, as such feedback provides useful information on the actual experience of Nigerians and helps government identify areas where further action is required.
