Court Orders INEC to Recognise NDC’s Two-Finger Logo

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to approve and recognise the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), according to a statement issued by the party.

The NDC said the court’s decision followed a suit filed by the party to compel INEC to upload and utilise its modified digital logo, as provided for in the party’s constitution, instead of the old association logo with which it was originally registered.

In a press statement dated September 10, 2026, and signed by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the party said the judgment was delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

According to the party, its First National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held on March 25, 2026, approved the modified logo, which was subsequently forwarded to INEC for official recognition and use.

The NDC stated that INEC initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it and reinstated what the party described as its “abandoned association logo.”

The party said it gave the electoral commission sufficient opportunity to resolve the matter administratively before resorting to litigation.

The NDC explained that its decision to approach the court became necessary after, according to the party, its efforts to have the matter resolved administratively did not yield the desired result.

In the judgment, the court ordered INEC, its servants, agents and officers to approve the modified logo design of the NDC, including its symbol and colours, for use by the party as its official logo.

The party quoted the court as directing INEC to recognise the logo, which it described as a digitally designed “two-finger victory sign” on a blue background, with the acronym “NDC” written in red on top.

The court, according to the NDC, further directed that the approved logo be used by the party “for all purposes as a political party, including for all elections conducted by the Defendant INEC in Nigeria.”

The court also reportedly granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the digitally designed two-finger victory sign.

The development is expected to provide clarity for the party and its candidates ahead of future electoral activities, particularly regarding the symbol to be displayed on campaign materials and other party publicity.

Reacting to the judgment, the NDC commended the judiciary for what it described as its timely intervention and for directing INEC to upload and utilise the party’s modified logo.

The party subsequently directed all its candidates, members and supporters to adopt and use only the court-approved NDC logo on campaign materials and other party paraphernalia.

Such materials, according to the statement, include banners, posters and other publicity items to be used for the party’s political activities.

The party also acknowledged that some of its candidates and members might have already produced campaign materials bearing the old logo.

It expressed regret over any inconvenience the situation may have caused and appealed for the understanding and cooperation of affected members and candidates.

The NDC said it would intensify public sensitisation and awareness campaigns to ensure that members, candidates and supporters are adequately informed about the party’s official logo.

The party also sought to reassure its supporters and candidates that the court’s decision had resolved the logo dispute and urged members to remain united and focused.

“We assure our supporters and candidates that there is nothing to worry about. We are in this together,” the statement said.

The NDC further called on its members to ensure strict compliance with the directive on the use of the approved logo in all future campaign and publicity materials.

The party’s position places the modified two-finger symbol at the centre of its official political identity as it prepares for its future electoral engagements.

The NDC said it appreciated its members and candidates for their patience and understanding throughout the period of uncertainty surrounding the logo, while expressing confidence that the court ruling would bring an end to the disagreement over the party’s official symbol.
