A prominent political figure, Halilu Abubakar Dabai, has called on Nigerians to mobilise ahead of the 2027 general elections and vote the All Progressives Congress (APC) out of power, arguing that the country needs a new political direction.
Dabai made the call during the official commissioning of the APM campaign office, where he also threw his weight behind a proposed presidential ticket comprising Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, as presidential candidate and Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura as vice-presidential candidate.
According to Dabai, the combination of Makinde and Daura would provide what he described as the leadership Nigeria needs to address the country’s challenges and move the nation forward.
He urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to take a keen interest in the political process and carefully scrutinise the promises and records of politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dabai specifically charged Nigerian youths to “shine their eyes,” warning them not to allow themselves to be deceived by politicians or political promises.
He said the youth constitute a significant portion of the Nigerian population and therefore have an important role to play in determining the country’s political future.
The political activist called on Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process, stressing that citizens have the power to influence the direction of governance through their votes.
He urged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), remain politically informed and ensure that their votes count during the 2027 elections.
Dabai’s endorsement of the proposed Makinde-Daura combination was one of the major highlights of the event. He described the pairing as, in his view, “the best” option for Nigeria, citing what he considers the qualities and capacity of the two politicians to provide effective leadership.
He maintained that Nigerians should look beyond political affiliations and assess candidates based on their competence, character, track record and ability to address the economic and social challenges confronting the country.
The commissioning of the APM campaign office also provided an opportunity for supporters and political stakeholders to discuss preparations for the 2027 elections and the need for greater grassroots mobilisation.
Dabai appealed to Nigerians not to be passive about the country’s political future, urging them to become more involved in political activities and electoral decision-making.
He said the 2027 election would present Nigerians with an opportunity to make a choice about the kind of leadership they want and encouraged citizens to exercise their franchise responsibly.
The call comes as political activities and alignments gradually begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups expected to intensify consultations, mobilisation and campaigns as the electoral cycle progresses.
While Dabai advocated support for the proposed Makinde-Daura ticket, he also urged Nigerians to make their decisions based on careful consideration of the candidates and the issues affecting the country.
He reiterated his appeal to Nigerian youths to remain vigilant and resist attempts by politicians to manipulate or mislead them, stressing that the future of the country depends significantly on the choices citizens make at the ballot box.
Dabai concluded by urging Nigerians to come out in large numbers during the 2027 elections and use their votes to determine who governs the country.
