Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung, has offered full scholarships for the Nigerian Law School programme to two First Class Law graduates of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The beneficiaries, Shimanh Daniel Sabo from Kauru Local Government Area and Rosemary Obadiah Mamman from Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, were received by the senator at his office at the National Assembly, Abuja.
Katung, who expressed delight over their outstanding academic performance, described the two graduates as a source of pride to Southern Kaduna and worthy ambassadors of the region.
The senator said the scholarship would cover their Nigerian Law School fees in full, noting that the intervention was designed to ensure that financial difficulties would not prevent the graduates from completing their professional training and being called to the Nigerian Bar.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to human capital development, particularly the education of young people and the girl-child.
According to him, the academic achievement of the two graduates demonstrates the intellectual capacity and potential of young people from Southern Kaduna when given the opportunity and necessary support.
“Your First Class from ABU is not just your personal victory, it is our collective pride. You have proven that our daughters can compete and lead anywhere.
“My duty is to ensure that nothing stops you from being called to the Bar. Go and make Southern Kaduna proud again at the Law School,” Katung told the beneficiaries.
The senator emphasised the importance of investing in education as a means of empowering young people to contribute meaningfully to society and the development of their communities.
He particularly highlighted the importance of supporting young women to attain higher levels of education, describing girl-child education as a key component of his human capital development agenda.
Katung noted that Southern Kaduna is endowed with considerable intellectual potential, particularly among its young population, and stressed the need for individuals, government and other stakeholders to create opportunities that would enable talented youths to maximise their potential.
The two beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the senator for the gesture, describing the scholarship as significant support at an important stage of their professional journey.
They pledged to reciprocate the confidence reposed in them by working hard at the Law School and serving as worthy ambassadors of Kaduna South and Southern Kaduna.
The intervention is part of Katung’s broader education-focused initiatives in Kaduna South, which, according to his office, include local and foreign scholarships, support for indigent students and investments in school infrastructure.
The senator’s office said the initiatives are aimed at expanding access to quality education and developing human capital across the senatorial district.
The latest scholarship is expected to enable the two First Class graduates to proceed with their professional legal education without the burden of Law School fees, bringing them closer to qualification as members of the Nigerian Bar.
The gesture also underscores the potential impact of targeted educational support in helping outstanding students translate academic achievements into professional qualifications and future leadership opportunities.
