The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the commencement of physical screening and documentation for successful candidates shortlisted for recruitment into the Service.
The exercise, according to a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, PhD, mnipr, mniia, will take place at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC), Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The Service urged all successful candidates to strictly adhere to the schedule allocated to their respective states and cadres, stressing that attendance at the screening and documentation exercise is compulsory.
The NCS warned that candidates who fail to appear on their designated dates may be disqualified from further participation in the recruitment process.
As part of the documentation process, shortlisted candidates are required to appear with the original copies and photocopies of specified documents for verification.
The documents include the National Identification Number (NIN), original Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age, as well as relevant educational certificates.
Candidates are expected to present their O’Level certificates and, where applicable, National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), university degree or other recognised qualifications used in their applications.
Other mandatory documents include a Certificate of State of Origin, two recent passport photographs and a duly completed Guarantor’s Form.
Candidates who are required to present evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme must also come with their NYSC Certificate.
The Service advised candidates to ensure that all documents presented are genuine and correspond with the information supplied during the recruitment process.
The NCS also released a specific dress code for the physical screening exercise.
All candidates are required to appear in a white T-shirt, shorts and canvas shoes.
The dress requirement is expected to facilitate the physical aspect of the screening exercise and ensure uniformity among candidates participating in the process.
The Customs Service further emphasised that candidates must report only on the date allocated to their respective states and cadres.
It cautioned candidates against attempting to attend on dates other than those assigned to them, noting that the exercise is being organised according to a structured schedule.
The Service also reiterated that participation in the physical screening and documentation is a compulsory stage of the recruitment exercise.
Candidates who fail to appear as scheduled risk losing their opportunity to proceed to subsequent stages of the recruitment process.
According to the NCS, candidates who successfully complete the physical screening and documentation will be provided with further instructions concerning the next stages of the recruitment exercise.
The Service said the recruitment process is being conducted under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, and his management team.
It assured candidates and members of the public that the recruitment exercise would be conducted in a transparent, fair and merit-based manner.
The NCS therefore urged candidates to remain vigilant and rely exclusively on official communication channels of the Service for information concerning the screening exercise and subsequent stages of recruitment.
The Service’s warning is particularly important as recruitment exercises often attract fraudulent individuals who attempt to exploit job seekers by circulating false information or demanding money in exchange for purported assistance.
The Customs authorities consequently advised candidates not to rely on unofficial messages, social media posts or individuals claiming to have special access to the recruitment process.
The statement, signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, Deputy Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer, was issued on behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs on September 1, 2026.
The NCS called on all successful candidates to prepare adequately, attend the exercise on their assigned dates and come with all required documents to avoid complications during the screening and documentation process.
