Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has disclosed that he began engaging in Christian spiritual activities, including casting out demons, at the age of 17.
The governor made the disclosure while speaking on his Christian faith and personal spiritual journey, according to a statement attributed to him.
Okpebholo said his early involvement in Christian activities shaped his faith and contributed to his understanding of the importance of prayer, service and commitment to God.
Reflecting on his experience as a young Christian, the governor said he had been involved in spiritual activities from an early age, including ministering to people whom he believed were under demonic influence.
“I started casting out demons at the age of 17,” Okpebholo was quoted as saying.
The governor’s revelation has drawn attention to the role his Christian background has played in his personal life and public outlook.
Okpebholo, who assumed office as Governor of Edo State after the 2024 governorship election, has on various occasions spoken about his faith and the importance of seeking divine guidance in leadership.
His latest disclosure provides an insight into a less-publicised aspect of his early life, particularly his involvement in Christian ministry before his emergence as a major political figure.
The governor’s statement also comes amid his broader emphasis on moral values, community service and the role of faith in public life.
Okpebholo’s political career has taken him from the Senate, where he represented Edo Central Senatorial District, to the Edo State Government House, where he emerged as governor.
His comments about his early religious experiences are expected to further fuel discussions about the personal experiences and convictions that have influenced his public career.
While recounting his experience, the governor did not present the statement merely as a political position but as part of his personal testimony about his Christian upbringing and spiritual development.
The disclosure has since generated interest among members of the public, particularly because of the governor’s description of his involvement in spiritual activities at a relatively young age.
Further details of the occasion at which the governor made the statement, including his account of specific experiences and the circumstances surrounding his early involvement in Christian ministry, are contained in the full remarks from which the statement was drawn.
