The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) as part of efforts to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration between both institutions.
The visit provided an avenue for the Ministry and the PTDF to discuss areas of mutual interest, particularly in capacity development, knowledge exchange, innovation and institutional strengthening in support of Nigeria’s broader development objectives.
Maiha, who was received by the Executive Secretary of PTDF, Prof. Shuaibu Shehu Aliyu, used the engagement to deepen understanding between the two institutions and explore possible areas where their respective mandates and expertise could complement one another.
The discussions focused on the importance of strategic partnerships among government institutions in building human and institutional capacity required to drive sustainable development across critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.
The Minister’s visit also underscored the growing importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing emerging development challenges through the sharing of knowledge, technical expertise and institutional resources.
Receiving the Minister, Aliyu reaffirmed the PTDF’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with relevant government institutions and other stakeholders to promote innovation, institutional capacity and sustainable national development.
He noted that collaboration among public institutions remained important to achieving greater impact from government programmes and initiatives, particularly where technical expertise, professional development and knowledge transfer were required.
The PTDF Executive Secretary said the Fund remained open to exploring areas of partnership that could contribute to the development of Nigeria’s human capital and strengthen the capacity of institutions to deliver on their respective mandates.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for both sides to consider ways of leveraging existing institutional expertise and resources to support national development priorities.
The Ministry of Livestock Development is responsible for policies and programmes aimed at developing Nigeria’s livestock sector, improving productivity and supporting sustainable growth within the sector, while the PTDF focuses on human-capacity development and the acquisition of expertise in the petroleum industry and related fields.
Although the two institutions operate in different sectors, the meeting highlighted the potential benefits of cross-sectoral collaboration, particularly in areas involving skills development, technical knowledge, research, innovation and institutional capacity building.
At the end of the engagement, the Minister and the PTDF management expressed a shared commitment to exploring areas of mutual interest and deepening collaboration between their institutions.
The meeting is expected to provide a basis for further discussions on specific areas of cooperation that could contribute to the Federal Government’s development agenda and strengthen capacity across relevant sectors.
The courtesy visit further demonstrated the importance of collaboration among government agencies in pooling expertise and resources towards achieving sustainable national development.
