The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rescheduled the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC) to Monday, October 26, 2026, following a change in the schedule of its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who is expected to attend an important engagement overseas.
The event was initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026, but the party leadership announced the postponement in a press statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The statement, released through the Office of the National Publicity Secretary and signed by Osa Director, Esq., National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, explained that Obi’s overseas engagement necessitated the adjustment of the inauguration date.
According to the party, the unveiling and inauguration will now hold on October 26, while members, supporters and other stakeholders have been urged to remain focused on the party’s electoral objectives despite the change in schedule.
The NDC expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement might cause individuals and groups who had made preparations to attend the event.
The party, however, emphasised that the adjustment should not distract its members from the broader objective of securing victory for Obi and other candidates contesting elections under its platform.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this shift and urge everyone not to lose focus on the goal of ensuring victory for our presidential candidate and all NDC candidates in the forthcoming presidential and general elections,” the statement said.
The party further called on its members and supporters across the country to sustain their commitment to its political activities and continue working towards the success of its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The inauguration of the National Campaign Council is expected to mark an important milestone in the NDC’s preparations for the forthcoming elections, providing an organisational framework for coordinating campaign activities, mobilising supporters and communicating the party’s message to the electorate.
Campaign councils traditionally play strategic roles in managing electoral operations, coordinating grassroots mobilisation, engaging political stakeholders and ensuring effective communication between party leadership, candidates and supporters.
For the NDC, the inauguration is expected to provide an opportunity to strengthen its campaign structure and coordinate efforts towards building nationwide support for Obi and other candidates seeking elective offices under the party’s platform.
An effective campaign structure is particularly important for political parties seeking to expand their reach, engage voters at the grassroots and communicate their policy priorities to different segments of the electorate.
However, the statement announcing the new date did not provide further details regarding the composition of the National Campaign Council or the specific arrangements for the October 26 event.
The party’s leadership nevertheless urged its members to remain united and committed to its political mission, stressing that the postponement should not affect ongoing preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The rescheduling announcement comes amid preparations by political parties to strengthen their organisational structures, mobilise supporters and position their candidates ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
For the NDC, maintaining unity and sustaining the enthusiasm of its members are expected to remain important considerations as it works towards the inauguration of its National Campaign Council. The party reiterated its appeal for continued dedication from members, supporters and stakeholders, urging them to remain focused on the task of securing electoral success for its candidates.
It also expressed appreciation for the understanding of those affected by the change in date, while reaffirming its commitment to its political objectives.
The NDC concluded the statement with its campaign message: “A New Nigeria is POssible!”
The unveiling and inauguration of the National Campaign Council is now scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, when the party is expected to take another step in organising its campaign activities and mobilising support for its candidates.
