The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has commenced early preparations for the 2027 governorship election, with the Chairman of Ifedayo Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, Hon. Abiodun Samuel Idowu, declaring that the party is now better prepared than ever before to contest and win the governorship poll.
Idowu made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, saying the party had strengthened its structures and mobilised its grassroots supporters across the state ahead of the election.
According to him, the APC has built what he described as a formidable political structure spanning the 30 local government areas and 332 wards in Osun State, positioning the party for a strong showing in the 2027 governorship election.
“In the history of Osun State, this is the first time we are this over-prepared for the election. The APC stands the chance to win the Osun State governorship election,” Idowu said.
The ALGON chairman attributed the party’s renewed confidence to sustained grassroots mobilisation, greater cooperation among party stakeholders and the commitment of leaders and members at various levels.
He said the party had learned from previous electoral experiences and was determined to consolidate its structures ahead of the next governorship contest.
Idowu maintained that the APC’s preparations were not limited to the leadership of the party but extended to its grassroots structures, which, according to him, remain critical to determining the outcome of elections.
He stressed that the mobilisation of supporters at the local government and ward levels would be sustained as the party moves closer to the 2027 election.
The APC chieftain also expressed optimism that the party could reclaim the Osun State governorship seat, urging members and supporters to remain united and focused on the objective.
He called on party stakeholders to prioritise unity and avoid internal disagreements capable of weakening the party’s electoral prospects.
According to him, the strength of any political party depends largely on the effectiveness of its grassroots structures and the ability of its members to work together toward a common goal.
Beyond partisan mobilisation, Idowu urged eligible voters across Osun State to participate actively in the electoral process and exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear.
He appealed to residents to shun violence, intimidation and other acts capable of disrupting the electoral process.
“We are telling our people to remain peaceful. Do not allow anyone to intimidate you. Your vote is your power,” he said.
He further encouraged voters to come out in large numbers on election day, maintain peace and cast their ballots for candidates of their choice.
Idowu stressed that political differences should not be allowed to degenerate into violence, urging political parties and their supporters to embrace tolerance and respect the democratic process.
He also called on stakeholders involved in the 2027 election to work toward ensuring a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral environment in the state.
The statement comes amid increasing political activities in Osun State as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The APC’s renewed grassroots mobilisation is expected to place greater emphasis on local government and ward-level structures, with party leaders seeking to consolidate their support base across the state.
Political observers believe that the strength and cohesion of grassroots structures could play a significant role in determining the fortunes of the major political parties as the election approaches.
For Idowu, however, the APC’s present level of mobilisation, unity and organisational preparedness provides the party with a strong foundation from which to pursue its ambition of returning to power in Osun State.
He therefore urged APC members to remain committed, disciplined and united, while encouraging eligible voters to participate peacefully in the democratic process.
With preparations already gathering momentum, the 2027 Osun governorship election is expected to generate intense political competition as the major parties seek to expand their support bases and convince voters across the state’s 30 local government areas.
