The political atmosphere in Osun State intensified on Wednesday as top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, arrived in Osogbo for the party’s mega campaign rally ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The high-profile mobilisation is part of efforts by the APC national leadership to consolidate support for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as the party steps up its final push to win the August 15 election.

The arrival of Akpabio, Uzodimma and other senior party figures further raised the profile of the rally, which attracted party leaders, chieftains, supporters and members from across the state.

The event is expected to provide the APC with an opportunity to demonstrate its organisational strength and mobilise voters for Oyebamiji in the final days of the campaign.

The party has intensified its grassroots engagement in the build-up to the election, with its leaders repeatedly appealing to residents to support its candidate and participate peacefully in the electoral process.

Akpabio’s presence at the rally is particularly significant, coming at a time when the APC is seeking to present a united front and project confidence ahead of the poll. His participation is expected to reinforce the party’s national backing for Oyebamiji and galvanise APC supporters across the state.

Uzodimma, who has also been involved in APC mobilisation efforts, joined other party leaders in Osogbo as the campaign entered its final phase. His presence is expected to add further momentum to the party’s mobilisation drive, particularly among party members and supporters.

Addressing supporters at the rally, party leaders are expected to emphasise the need for unity, discipline and commitment as the APC works to translate its campaign structures into votes on election day.

Oyebamiji has been campaigning on the platform of the APC with promises centred on good governance, economic development, improved infrastructure, job creation and greater opportunities for young people.

The candidate has also sought the support of religious leaders, traditional institutions, professional groups, women, youths and other critical stakeholders as he makes his final appeal to the electorate.

The mega rally provides the APC with a major platform to restate its message to Osun voters and reassure party supporters of its preparedness for Saturday’s contest.

Beyond the political spectacle, the event also underscores the strategic importance attached to the Osun governorship election by the APC leadership. The outcome of the poll is expected to have implications for the political balance in the state and the party’s broader electoral calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the campaign entering its final stretch, political parties and their candidates have been intensifying efforts to secure the support of undecided voters while strengthening their grassroots structures.

Security and peaceful conduct have also remained major issues ahead of the election, with relevant authorities deploying personnel and urging political actors and their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation and inflammatory statements.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued preparations for the election, while security agencies have assured residents of measures to protect voters, electoral personnel and materials.

The APC leadership, at the rally, is expected to urge its supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the voting process and to protect the integrity of the election by conducting themselves responsibly.

For Oyebamiji and the APC, the mega rally represents one of the final major opportunities to consolidate the party’s campaign message and demonstrate its political strength before voters head to the polling units on Saturday.

As the countdown to the election continues, attention will now shift from campaign rallies and political promises to the electorate, whose votes will ultimately determine the next governor of Osun State.
