Shamsuddeen Mangal Hails BurataiBy Julius Peter, Abuja
Shamsuddeen Mangal, who represented his father, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Chairman of Max Air, has congratulated former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), CFR, on the public presentation of a book documenting his military leadership and career.
Mangal, who spoke at the public presentation of Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, described Buratai’s tenure as Chief of Army Staff as a significant period in the efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s capacity to confront insecurity.
He said the former Army Chief deserved commendation for his contributions to the Nigerian military, particularly his efforts towards improving the provision of equipment and other capabilities required to tackle security challenges confronting the country.
According to him, Buratai’s achievements while serving as Chief of Army Staff remain worthy of recognition, adding that Nigerians could draw important lessons from his career, leadership style and personal conduct.
Mangal said he was pleased to represent his father at the occasion and conveyed his goodwill and best wishes to Buratai on the launch of the book.
He also commended the organisers of the event for putting together a publication that, according to him, would provide an opportunity for Nigerians and other stakeholders to learn more about military leadership, national security and the experiences of one of the country’s former military chiefs.
He urged Nigerians, particularly younger generations, to study the values demonstrated throughout Buratai’s public service career and draw useful lessons from his approach to leadership and service to the nation.
Mangal further praised Buratai’s lifestyle, describing it as one that could serve as an example to others, and called on Nigerians to emulate positive values associated with discipline, commitment and service.
The book presentation attracted prominent personalities from across the political, military, business, traditional and other sectors of Nigerian society.
Among those present were the representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaji Dr Umar Abdul Mutallab, founder of Jaiz Bank; His Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, Emir of Kano; and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd).
Politicians, traditional rulers, senior military and security officials, business leaders and other stakeholders also attended the event to celebrate Buratai’s contributions to the Nigerian Army and discuss issues surrounding transformational military leadership and national security.
The publication, Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, provides a platform for reflection on Buratai’s period of service as Chief of Army Staff and his approach to military leadership, institutional development and the fight against insecurity.
The event also offered an opportunity for participants to reflect on the broader challenges facing Nigeria’s security architecture and the importance of effective leadership, adequate resources, professionalism and cooperation among security stakeholders.
Buratai served as Chief of Army Staff before retiring from the Nigerian Army and subsequently served Nigeria in diplomatic and other public roles. His military career, particularly his tenure as Army Chief, has continued to attract discussions on military transformation, counter-insurgency operations and the development of the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities.
