President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari as the Director-General of his 2027 presidential re-election campaign.
The appointment is part of the President’s preparations for the 2027 general elections and is expected to strengthen the coordination, mobilisation and administrative structure of the campaign ahead of the commencement of intensive political activities.
Yari, a former two-term governor of Zamfara State and former senator, is expected to provide strategic leadership to the campaign organisation, bringing to bear his experience in party politics, governance and grassroots mobilisation.
In another key appointment, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Edo State, has been named Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation.
Oshiomhole is expected to play a central role in coordinating the mobilisation of party members, supporters and political stakeholders across the country as the ruling party works to consolidate its political structures ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The President’s Chief of Staff has also been appointed Deputy Director-General in charge of Administration, giving the campaign leadership responsibility for coordinating its administrative machinery and ensuring effective implementation of decisions within the campaign structure.
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has been appointed Secretary of the campaign council. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the campaign’s coordination with state-level political structures, particularly in the South-East and other parts of the country.
Also appointed are APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, as Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
The appointments bring together senior political figures with experience in governance, party administration, grassroots mobilisation and campaign organisation.
The development is coming as political parties and aspirants begin to intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the APC expected to deploy its national, state and grassroots structures in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The campaign leadership structure is expected to serve as the coordinating platform for the President’s re-election effort, with responsibilities ranging from political mobilisation and administration to stakeholder engagement and coordination of campaign activities across the federation.
Yari’s emergence as Director-General places him at the centre of the President’s campaign machinery and gives him the responsibility of coordinating the various components of the campaign council towards achieving the APC’s electoral objectives.
Similarly, Oshiomhole’s mobilisation role is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots network, engaging party leaders and supporters and ensuring effective mobilisation across the country.
The inclusion of Uzodimma, Bashiru and Bala-Usman in the secretariat structure is also expected to provide administrative and organisational support for the campaign council.
The appointments underscore the importance attached by the Tinubu administration and the APC to early preparation for the 2027 presidential election, with the campaign expected to focus on presenting the administration’s record in office, consolidating its support base and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the poll.
As the 2027 political season gathers momentum, attention is expected to shift to the full composition of the campaign council and the programmes and strategies it will adopt in its efforts to secure President Tinubu’s re-election.
The development also signals the beginning of a more structured phase of the President’s 2027 campaign, with the newly appointed officials expected to work closely with the APC leadership, governors, National Assembly members, party stakeholders and grassroots organisations to build a coordinated national campaign.
The President’s re-election bid is expected to be one of the major political contests of the 2027 general elections, with the APC seeking to retain the presidency and consolidate its position as the ruling party.
