By Julius Peter, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed confidence in its preparedness for the flag-off of its 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna, predicting a massive turnout of supporters and describing the event as a critical test of the party’s nationwide mobilisation strategy ahead of the general elections.

Senator Osita Izunaso, who spoke in Kaduna ahead of the campaign flag-off scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, said the party had put the necessary organisational arrangements in place to ensure a successful event, while measures were being strengthened to manage the large crowd expected at the venue.

Izunaso described the Kaduna rally as a significant political gathering that would demonstrate the APC’s mobilisation capacity, reinforce its campaign machinery and provide an opportunity for the party to communicate its message to Nigerians as it seeks another presidential mandate in 2027.

According to him, the party is expecting a turnout that could exceed initial projections, making crowd management and the coordination of activities among the major priorities of the organisers.

“As for the approval, this venue tomorrow will rekindle the hope of good governance. You will see the gallery of men and women that will be here tomorrow. The crowd control is even what we are working on, because we know that more than the expected crowd will be here tomorrow. This is our flag-off, and we are going to make it big,” he said.

The senator’s remarks underscore the importance the ruling party attaches to the Kaduna rally, which is expected to bring together party leaders, governors, elected representatives, campaign officials, stakeholders and supporters from different parts of the country.

Izunaso disclosed that the Kaduna campaign flag-off would serve as a test case for the APC’s nationwide mobilisation arrangements, particularly its capacity to coordinate supporters and political structures across the country.

He explained that the experience gained from the rally would be significant as the party proceeds with subsequent campaign activities in other parts of Nigeria.

According to him, the APC intends to sustain the momentum generated in Kaduna as it moves to other locations, with Port Harcourt, Rivers State, scheduled to host the next phase of its campaign activities on November 7, 2026.

“By the time we move from Kaduna, we are moving to Port Harcourt on the 7th of November. So Kaduna will be a test case,” Izunaso stated.

The decision to use Kaduna as a benchmark for subsequent campaign activities highlights the importance of effective planning, crowd coordination and the mobilisation of party supporters as the APC prepares for an extensive nationwide campaign.

The rally is also expected to provide an opportunity for the party to assess the effectiveness of its grassroots structures and the level of coordination among its state chapters ahead of the 2027 elections.

As part of the arrangements for the campaign launch, Izunaso disclosed that the seven governors from the North-West geopolitical zone would receive campaign flags alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governors are expected to take the flags to their respective states and use them to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, coordinate party activities and intensify support for the APC’s presidential campaign.

The flag presentation is expected to symbolise the involvement of the governors in the campaign process and reinforce the party’s strategy of deploying its political structures across the federation.

The North-West remains an important political zone in Nigeria’s electoral calculations, given its population and electoral significance. Consequently, the APC’s approach to mobilisation in the region is likely to be a major component of its efforts to secure a renewed mandate in 2027.

By involving the governors directly in the campaign structure, the party intends to ensure that its message reaches supporters at the state, local government and grassroots levels.

The arrangement is also expected to strengthen coordination between the national campaign leadership and state-level political structures, allowing campaign activities to be organised within a common framework.

Izunaso further revealed that the APC had developed a nationwide campaign plan covering all 36 states of the federation, with President Tinubu expected to visit at least 12 states during the campaign.

Under the arrangement, Vice President Kashim Shettima would lead campaign activities in states that the President would not visit.

The strategy is designed to ensure that the party maintains a presence across the country while making effective use of its principal campaign leaders.

With the President and Vice President sharing responsibilities for campaign engagements, the APC expects to reach a broader segment of the electorate and strengthen its engagement with voters in different geopolitical zones.

The plan also reflects the logistical demands associated with a nationwide presidential campaign, which requires extensive coordination among campaign officials, state party structures, political officeholders and grassroots supporters.

By distributing campaign responsibilities between the President and Vice President, the party hopes to maintain momentum across multiple states while ensuring that its activities remain coordinated under the national campaign framework.

The success of the strategy, however, will depend on effective implementation, sustained engagement with voters and the ability of state-level structures to translate national campaign activities into grassroots support.

Despite the organisational challenges associated with a nationwide campaign, Izunaso expressed confidence in the APC’s political structures and support base, insisting that the party was adequately prepared for the task ahead.

He maintained that the party had organised its activities to ensure a seamless campaign process and expressed optimism that Nigerians would continue to support its political programme.

“So we have organised ourselves very well, and it is going to be seamless. Nigerians are happy with us. They love our party, and we want to make them happier by doing the right thing all the time,” he said.

His remarks suggest that the APC intends to combine large-scale rallies with a broader political engagement strategy as it seeks to consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The senator also emphasised the importance of maintaining public confidence, suggesting that the party’s campaign would need to be supported by continued efforts to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

For the ruling party, the campaign presents an opportunity to highlight its policies and achievements, communicate its priorities for the next phase of governance and seek the electorate’s support for another term.

The Kaduna flag-off comes as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections, with campaign activities expected to intensify as the election period approaches.

For the APC, the challenge will be to translate its organisational strength and projected rally attendance into sustained electoral support across the country.

While large political gatherings can demonstrate a party’s ability to mobilise supporters, the broader electoral contest will also depend on voters’ assessments of governance, economic conditions, security, public services and the credibility of campaign promises.

The party’s nationwide campaign arrangement, including the proposed participation of the President, Vice President and state governors, is intended to provide a coordinated platform for communicating its message to Nigerians.

Kaduna’s designation as a test case therefore places considerable importance on the organisation and outcome of the flag-off. Beyond the expected crowd, the rally will offer an early indication of how effectively the APC can coordinate its national and state-level campaign machinery.

The subsequent campaign activities, including the planned November 7 engagement in Port Harcourt, will provide further opportunities for the party to extend its mobilisation efforts to other regions.

As the 2027 electoral contest gathers momentum, the APC will be seeking to demonstrate that its organisational structures, leadership coordination and grassroots networks can deliver a nationwide campaign capable of sustaining its political position.

For Izunaso, the immediate priority is to ensure that the Kaduna flag-off meets the party’s expectations, manages the anticipated turnout effectively and establishes a strong foundation for the campaign activities to follow.

The ruling party is projecting the rally as a major demonstration of its readiness for the electoral contest, with the ultimate test being whether the enthusiasm generated during campaign activities translates into votes at the polls.
