Ibrahim Kahlil Hassan, a supporter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, alleging that it has failed to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians, while expressing confidence in former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as an alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Hassan made the remarks during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, where he declared his support for Atiku and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming general election.
He said the current situation in the country had increased the demand for political change, arguing that Nigerians were facing severe economic hardship, hunger and growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has not met the expectations of many Nigerians, making the 2027 presidential election an opportunity for citizens to demand a different approach to governance.
“Tinubu must go. He has nothing to offer Nigerians. Atiku is the alternative for Nigeria, and I believe the ADC will take the day in 2027,” Hassan said.
He maintained that Nigeria needed a change in leadership, expressing confidence that Atiku possessed the plans and policy direction required to address the country’s challenges.
Hassan said his support for the former vice president was informed by his belief that Atiku could provide a different approach to governance and respond to the concerns of Nigerians struggling with the rising cost of living and other economic difficulties.
He further alleged that the policies and performance of the ruling party had contributed to widespread frustration among citizens, insisting that the concerns of ordinary Nigerians should be a major consideration in determining the country’s political future.
“The time has come for Nigeria to experience change. The only person I believe can do the job is Atiku Abubakar. Looking at his plans and policies for the country, I believe he can do the job well,” he said.
Hassan also expressed confidence in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, saying the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council marked an important step in the party’s efforts to organise its campaign and mobilise support across the country.
He urged party members, supporters and stakeholders to remain committed to the party’s objectives, stressing the importance of unity and effective coordination in pursuing its political ambitions.

The inauguration brought together prominent figures within the ADC, including the party’s presidential candidate and his running mate, the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council and members of the campaign leadership.
Other dignitaries at the event included ADC chieftains, party stakeholders and supporters who gathered to witness the inauguration and demonstrate their commitment to the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The event provided an opportunity for party leaders and supporters to express their expectations for the forthcoming election and outline their commitment to strengthening the ADC’s political structures ahead of the campaign.
Hassan’s remarks reflect the position of a supporter who believes that the 2027 election should serve as an opportunity to assess the performance of the incumbent administration and consider alternative leadership proposals.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to develop, the ADC and other political parties are expected to intensify consultations, mobilise supporters and present their policy positions to Nigerians.
The debate over the country’s economic direction, the cost of living, employment opportunities and the effectiveness of government policies is also expected to feature prominently in discussions surrounding the next presidential election.
