The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has pledged his total dedication to the 2027 presidential campaign assignment entrusted to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
General Musa made the commitment in a statement on Monday following his appointment as Secretary I of the APC Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.
The Defence Minister expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu and the leadership of the ruling party for the confidence reposed in him, describing the appointment as a call to higher service and an opportunity to contribute to the party’s electoral objectives.
He assured the APC leadership, stakeholders and supporters across the country that he would approach the assignment with diligence, administrative rigour and a strong sense of responsibility.
According to him, his new political assignment would receive his full commitment as he works with other members of the campaign council towards achieving the party’s objectives in the 2027 presidential election.
General Musa, however, stressed that his constitutional responsibility as Minister of Defence remains paramount, particularly the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the lives and property of citizens.
He maintained that his involvement in the campaign council would not diminish the attention given to the nation’s security architecture, ongoing military operations or reforms within the defence sector.
“National security remains our highest imperative,” the Minister stated.
“The ongoing operations, strategic reforms, and inter-agency collaborations across the defence sector will continue unabated with increased vigour. Our resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr. President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable.”
The Minister’s comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the APC and other political parties expected to strengthen their structures and mobilisation efforts across the country.
General Musa further assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Defence would remain focused on its core mandate while efforts continued to strengthen security cooperation and address emerging threats to national peace and stability.
He emphasised the importance of unity, patriotism and collective responsibility in sustaining the country’s security and development.
The Defence Minister also called on APC members, supporters and patriotic Nigerians to remain united behind the Tinubu administration, expressing confidence that the party would record success at the polls while continuing to pursue its governance and security agenda.
His appointment to the campaign council adds the Minister to the growing list of senior political and administrative figures mobilised by the APC for its 2027 presidential campaign.
The development is expected to strengthen the campaign council’s organisational and mobilisation efforts as the ruling party prepares for a nationwide campaign aimed at consolidating its support base and presenting the achievements of the Tinubu administration to voters.
General Musa’s dual emphasis on his campaign responsibility and constitutional security mandate also underscores the importance of maintaining institutional focus within the defence sector as the country approaches another election cycle.
He reiterated that the defence establishment would continue to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity, support national stability and safeguard citizens while remaining committed to ongoing reforms and inter-agency collaboration.
The Minister urged Nigerians to continue supporting efforts aimed at building a safer and more prosperous country, assuring that the government’s commitment to national security remained unwavering.
The statement was signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser (Media) to the Honourable Minister of Defence.
